Fertility information can be difficult to navigate. Our evidence grading labels help you understand how confidently research supports the main guidance in an article or video.
🟢 Strong evidence
Research provides a reliable and consistent basis for the guidance. We have a high level of confidence in the findings, although individual outcomes can vary.
🟡 Moderate evidence
Research supports the guidance, but some uncertainty remains. Studies may have limitations or show differing results. Further research could change our understanding.
🔴 Limited evidence
Research is sparse, preliminary or inconsistent, so firm conclusions cannot yet be drawn. The guidance may still be useful, but its benefits are less certain.
Limited evidence does not necessarily mean that something does not work. It means we do not yet have enough reliable research to be confident.
We assess the available research and relevant clinical guidelines, considering:
A benefit for one outcome does not automatically mean a benefit for another. For example, improved wellbeing does not necessarily mean a higher chance of pregnancy.
Each label summarises the evidence supporting the main guidance in that resource. Individual statements may have different levels of support.
The label describes confidence in the evidence. It does not indicate the size of a possible benefit, guarantee results or determine whether an approach is suitable for you. Red means greater uncertainty, rather than danger.
The “Last reviewed” date shows when the resource was most recently assessed. Evidence labels may change as research develops. A resource without a label has not yet been assigned an evidence grade.
